Finnegan partners Erik Puknys and Rob McCauley will be presenting a High Tech Tuesday lunch program on Markman hearings at Noon on March 10th in Bannon 127.

Whether you're a big fan of patent litigation or not, this will be an entertaining opportunity to see first-hand what Markman hearings are. In modern practice, they are a watershed point for patent suits because opposing parties present their view of what the patent claims mean, and a judge then chooses (which usually leads to one or both sides seeking settlement). Thus, Markman hearings usually determine the outcome of the patent litigation.

Erik and Rob have done many Markman hearings in their practice. They'll try to put that experience to work in the form of selling their audience on competing interpretations of a sample claim. The audience will then pick either Erik or Rob as "the winner."

This may be a unique opportunity so please do your best to attend. Finnegan also has a strong history of hiring SCU students and sponsored our Symposium, so reasons abound for finding time for this. Lunch is included, too.
